Standardizing award, title, and position names #79

Open Glenalth opened 9 years ago

Glenalth commented 9 years ago

Issues this addresses

  1. Currently many groups are entering their positions incorrectly (especially newer groups or newer players) as they don't see the expected "Ducal Prime Minister" or "Shire Champion" and are entering them as custom awards or just not doing it. Different methods of entry or non-entry will cause possible future reports (such as a Knight of the Crown qualified report or a title qualification report) to have incomplete data.
  2. Some things, such as tournament wins that are needed for some award qualifications are not being recorded or are being recorded in an unsearchable custom award format.
  3. Some kingdom officer positions, such as Guildmaster of Reeves, are missing entirely.
  4. Some awards have changed names, such as the class masterhoods.

    Challenges

  5. The first hurdle to implementing this is assigning custom names to old records, or leaving old custom names intact. This will prevent data loss or the pissing off of too many kingdoms or chancellors.
  6. The second is to allow the Custom Award Name field to work with all award types. This will allow groups to choose how they want their records to appear while still having a consistent dataset for reports and record-keeping across all groups. Some groups would rather use the more flavorful/archaic terms, such as "Ducal Defender" or "Master Assassin" instead of "Champion, Ducal" or "Paragon Assassin." This also allows for protem or partial term positions to be easier to identify.
  7. Some fields will require special handling, such as combining "Provincial Duchess" and "Provincial Duke" into a single "Monarch, Ducal" with a custom name for the gendered portion of the position. Note that I did not do this to titles such as Duke/Baroness/Marquis/etc. as combining them didn't seem important.

    Key:

^ To be potentially added ? Text correction or Error = Text Change NEW <- OLD (may need old name ported into custom name field for old records) ! Special handling required to prevent data loss and/or duplicate entries

I would like to ask that this be high priority. It should be relatively straightforward, and adding the missing ones at least is something that has been needed for a while, since some terms in office can not be recorded until this happens.

The missing offices can be recorded as a custom award, but it will just end up being an issue if there is reporting implemented for positions in the future.

If this is something that will not happen soon, it's probably important to educate people on what "Ducal Chancellor" and other non-kingdom level terms mean so the records don't get too bad.

This is in progress. There are a few stages:

  1. I created new award entries largely based on Glenalth's list above.
  2. I have added a new field to the canonical list "proposed names", which will have the name revisions.
  3. Every kingdom will receive the new awards
  4. Every kingdom will receive name updates to their kingdom aliases for every award which they have not already re-aliased (applied a custom alias)

Paragon issues have been fixed.

Master Reeve / Paragon Reeve may also need to be added to the list.

Clarifying titles by having them show up as "Title: Duke" or "Title of Duke" in the drop-down list may help ease confusion as well.
