While I agree, it's only one example, and it would be worth noting the years of effort of the Google ATAP team on Tango that preceded ARKit and eventually led to ARCore, which like ARKit and in contrast to Tango does not require additional motion and depth cameras for environment understanding, though it is also more limited. As a point of reference, ARKit was released in June 2017, ARCore in August 2017.
