Issue

Screen flickers abnormally (light/dark) when using both dpad and the firing button and playing as the racoon character.

How to reproduce

  1. Start a game in single player mode
  2. Select the racoon character
  3. Just press Y in rapid succession: character shoots bullets: all good ✅!
  4. Move around with the dpad without firing: character moves around: all good ✅!
  5. While maintaining any direction pressed on the dpad (up/down/left/right), fire in quick succession: screen flickers light/dark: not good ❌😞

The issue does not occur when the game is played as the girl character. It only occurs when playing as the racoon character.

The issue does NOT occur on a real Super Famicom (loaded from the same SD2SNES)

I just noticed that even the demo play with 2 characters playing also shows the issue!

So to repro you don't even need to play. Let the demo run, and you can see that when the racoon moves and fire at the same time, the screen flickers like crazy.

The issue occurs in firmwares v5.1, v5.2 and v5.3 but not in v5.0.

There are several games that suffer this issue including “Ys V” and “alien vs predator”, so this appears to plague a wide number of games, there’s probably more that haven’t been reported. I can confirm this happens on a first run super nt.
