[BUG] Samsung VR Headset not recognised

Describe the bug No software stubs for Samsung VR headset detection

To Reproduce Steps to reproduce the behavior:

Insert phone in Samsung VR headset

Expected behavior It should invoke Oculus software installation if not previously installed

Smartphone (please complete the following information):

Device: S7E
Model: G935FD

Oculus software installation works but after that phone don't recognize vr headset.

I am able to get GearVR Service functioning by going to /system/priv-app/GearVRService and opening the apk using FX Root Installer. From then on, VR headset is detected when attached to phone. As with other services, it can take 10 seconds or so after rebooting before the GearVRService is running.

EDIT: Apologies, after more testing I am no longer sure this step is required. The headset is consistently detected if attached when phone powers on, however I am unable to get headset to be recognised under any other conditions. Other than this problem, GearVR works as expected.

A further observation. The headset will always be correctly detected if connected to phone during startup (after a reboot). This may have been the default behaviour all along, of v1 of this ROM. If headset is connected after startup is complete, headset is not recognized.

My solution:

Step 1

Download Root Uninstaller
Uninstall all Gear VR system apps.

I had 2: Service and System I uninstalled both.

Step 2

Download GearVR setup wizard and let it install everything it needs,

Took me 13 minutes.

Step 3

Download Disable App
Search for Gear VR Service
Set all Services/ Receivers/ Permissions as in attached photos.

Step 4

Go to settings.
Search Notifications Access
Click Notifications Access
Click Gear VR Service (See attached photo) https://i.imgur.com/eIuizZV.jpg
Click Allow

Step 5

Plug in Gear VR
Wait up to 1 minute.

Please, I would like to use a VR headset, can you advise me how to solve this problem? I have already installed everything necessary and granted permissions to all applications for all the necessary attributes and still after adding the phone to the headset, the phone headset does not recognize. Is there any way to start some kind of repair so that the phone knows it is connected?

The issue is open. As its a bug But I am not actively trying to fix it.

I do not own a VR headset to do long term testing. I borrowed one from my friend for 2 weeks and I couldn't fix it.

And personally I'm not invested enough in VR to buy one to attempt to fix it again.

So until something changes this will remain unsolved and you would need pie to use your headset. Can't do much about it

Problém je otevřený. Je to chyba, ale aktivně se to nesnažím opravit.

Nemám náhlavní soupravu VR k dlouhodobému testování. Jeden jsem si půjčil od kamaráda na 2 týdny a nemohl jsem to opravit.

A osobně nejsem dostatečně investován do VR, abych si koupil jeden, abych se pokusil to znovu opravit.

Dokud se něco nezmění, zůstane to nevyřešené a k použití náhlavní soupravy byste potřebovali koláč. Nemůžu s tím moc dělat

I get it, and I'm a big fan of this project... I would be very happy and very please (certainly I am not alone) fix this problem as much as possible. Google's headset is the single really best VR headset for the mobile platform and it would be a shame not to give it to even those who have this ROM... I Harb installed this ROM due to the fact that I can not have the original ROM Because of "Knox", which no longer allows me to use galaxy watch, samsung health and not even samsung pass... Everything works right here with this ROM, just not gear VR 😀😀 THANK YOU otherwise for the great work...

@fiocco10 VR won't work on FloydQ. Even if you managed to install the necessary APKs, the headset wouldn't work anyway, as it is bugged on the ROM.

You could've saved this spent time by reading on the XDA post, as it is listed that VR Headsets don't work

@fiocco10 I've also read that it didn't work for you. When we tested DeX on this ROM, there was 1 (one) person that got a luck strike and managed to boot it. But it was never reproduced. This could easily be a similar case. Also, quick mention that Anan labeled this issue as "won't fix" and removed the "low priority" label

@fiocco10 That is out of the question because, even if you manage to install it, to have the service ACTUALLY working depends on both following the steps Zaper4life provided AND having luck, as a guy before you did the same as Zaper4life, and it did NOT work for him. Zaper had a luck strike. If you want VR, go back to Pie

GearVR Workaround from our Group by @askull:

Askull:
Yes. I ran the Gear VR service by using Quick Shortcut Maker and installed all apps. Then enabled developer mode for the Gear VR and enabled 
•)Add app icon to list
•)Developer Options 
•)Allow vr api without osig (for sideloading)

Then I ran gallery vr from the new icon named "Gear VR Service" from applist and then clicked back button to open oculous home. And then insert phone to gear vr 😊😊😊

Note: Touchpad on Gear VR is working 👍👍👍 but wake and sleep sensor is not, so the display will be on always ...

It seems that the issue with VR is the sensor not working properly, perhaps its fixable.
