New Element: Character Design #35

Open bn-d opened 1 year ago

bn-d commented 1 year ago

Where does this comes from?

Myself.

What is the rationale for adding support for this element?

Correctly store all the author information of some manga. This is not covered by existing fields.

Is the element already handled by any application or tool?

Not to my knowledge.

Kavita would be willing to add support for this field. This is a very common designation in Manga whereas existing roles don't provide an appropriate mapping.

Being able to view and filter against such a role would be beneficial if you enjoyed a character design of one work.

With a single field the granularity would be too low IMO. You wouldn't be able to model what characters this is referring to.

Could we have some real life example for this ?

In manga, they don't do just one character, they do them all. It's usually one person that comes in and helps design the characters.

I'll leave it to @bn-d to provide some anilist links that show the character designer on different manga.

I don't believe this tag will have cross over for comics.

The Slime Diaries: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime

Please go to the staff tab, you will see Mitz Vah as the original character design. You can also see it on the cover. Honestly, it is hard to find English sourced info about this. Most English website simply omits this.

Character Design Illustrator is almost always present on manga that is based on or derived from a Light Novel. E.g. the illustrator of the images that are part of said light novel. This illustrator is then listed as the character design on the manga as the mangaka is usually someone completely different.
