Hi.. I have a unique situation. I need your help retrieving a contact's number. My service provider (t-mobile) cancelled my phone number cuz I couldnt pay my bill in months due to issues beyond my control. So my number was assigned to someone else. Whatsapp popped a message on my phone saying my number is no longer valid. As a result, I'm unable to access whatsapp. And I cant access numbers I havent added to my phone app yet.

I know in order to view contacts I need the key. But I went into my phone and the key seems like its not there anymore. Is it possible my key no longer exists because whatsapp deleted it when the phone number was assigned to someone else?

All I need is to retrieve 1 contact number that I havent put a name on in my phone book. Is it still possible to retrieve it?

If you haven't uninstalled the app or deleted the data from it, try looking in the app's data folder (where the key is located) to see if the profile image cache folder still exists. That folder contains each profile image with the phone number as the file name

Postscript: Andreas, if you ever add an option for an automatic backup by connecting the phone and thus view the files, make a copy of this folder also to associate the profile image to each chat. :)

@LambdaSoft Sure. (I'm also missing the profile pics)

Hi Lambdasoft. I do have the folder in question. But I dont have the key. I think whatsapp must've deleted it when my number changed. So how do i open up the profile image?

The profile image folder isn't encrypted. Only, open the images with an gallery app or you change the filename to jpg or png for open it. I can't say what is the patch of this folder because I updated to Android 11 and, in this version, it isn't possible get access to the app data folder from the phone.
