Expiration should happen on loading the task list or as part of the daily routine. The latter isn't working, you have to exit an restart or reload (CapsLock+r) for tasks to expire.

I realized that isn't a bug after all. The tasks expire once the daily routine is executed, which is dependent on the setting in the ini file. So if the morning routine is set to 6:00 am, tasks that are overdue will expire at 6:00 am. If you're burning the midnight oil, you'll still have those tasks around between midnight and 6:00 am. If you don't want that, just change the time of the daily routine to midnight.
