Initial comments after trialing a pile of IPTV apps for Apple devices. tivimate is by far the best IPTV app used to date but there is no profile synchronization support between Android devices. I switched from Android to an Apple TV in the hopes of synchronizing profiles between Apple devices in our household but I am still observing limitations with apps available in the App Store. I do like iPlayTV and it does have potential.
iPlayTV Live TV & TV Guide:
Tile view of channels isn't practical in the Live TV view.
Having both Live TV and TV Guide as menu options isn't practical.
Channel and program descriptions aren't visible in the TV Guide view.
Most users switching to IPTV had cable boxes, cable box guide shows channels in a tabular format with an upper panel showing channel information (channel #, network, description, etc.) and a preview of the channel. So many developers are missing this practical functionality, tivimate solved this problem but the app available for Apple devices (tivimax) is not the same at all. Tiles for Shows or Movies are practical: less complex information being communicated.
iPlayTV Shows:
Add another option: Series | Play
Series: view seasons and episodes.
Play: plays the last episode viewed or where you left off. This reduces the number of steps to achieve the same result.
Apple TV iPlayTV App Search Feature:
The search feature location isn't practical (i.e. playlist screen), perhaps if a user wanted to search all playlists, but when you are in a playlist you can't search without exiting and going back to the playlist view.
Apple TV iPlayTV Favourites:
Inconsistent spelling of Favorites. The main top menu has it spelled as "Favourites" and under Movies and Shows it is spelled as "Favorite". "Favorite" is US English and with a U is Canadian, etc. English, either is fine, just be consistent.
It would be practical under Favourites->TV Shows to list "New TV Shows" and "Continue Watching.."
It would be practical under Favourites->Movies to list "New Movies", Continue Watching..", and "Watched Movies".
Nice to Have Features:
Ability to schedule recordings for Live TV.
Ability to download Shows and Movies to watch when you aren't connected to the internet.
iPlayTV Subscriptions:
Profiles between an Apple TV device and your iPhone or iPad do not synchronize.
Multiple subscriptions are needed to support all your Apple devices yet it isn't practical given the profiles aren't synchronized.
