Theme unusable with latest MATE desktop #39

The introduction page states theme is usable with Gnome Shell 3.18 - 3.30 and GTK 3.18 - 3.24. Current MATE for instance in Ubuntu MATE 18.04 or Linux Mint is 3.22.30.

I've ran autoconfig with these flags: --disable-gnome-shell for installation to pass, but when I install it and go into appearance settings theme have question marks on it, and when I try to set it it says GTK theme is not installed.

I am successfully using it with XFCE though in Xubuntu 18.04.

Can it or not be used in current MATE desktop?

Something is definiely messy with metacity theme. You can see it for instance if you open "About Mate" dialog for instance. Window control like close button is not shown and title bar is way smaller than regular windows. That's too bad this is the only theme I am using for years now.
