Decide later on replacing . or camelCase with _ #1

I now know that underscores are the preffered, way but some of this code is 4-5 years old and it will be easier to get the package done first then tidy up any stylistic issues if time.

Not time. Sorry, but better to get the code shared (and some people have started using it already, so awkward to change it). Could write wrapper functions if necessary to make it all consistent.
