There is no way of telling:

When the plugin is downloading data
Processing entries

Added progress dialogs in 67952e2ef0513409f6808b6352a5941fea83c8a7. Downloads don't update their progress yet.

This has been vastly improved in 8d673f06ac76dc3de93f72739d78ca2ba7b1816d by using a marquee progress bar. This means that you have an indication that something is happening (with appropriate text) before the real processing starts.
