Separate the display from the execution:

i.e. displaying stuff works when (at least one) display is connected to the execution engine.
this could be a default 'show' display
- like a blockly shadow block that is shown with a default but can be replaced
there are issues with having a non visible executing script?!

Even without making a display optional - separating the client does offer some benefits:

the client could be native rather than browser
scripts can run:
- without a browser
- when the browser is hidden/out of focus
