Modelling future energy scenarios

Start developing and uploading datasets which are pertinent to future energy scenarios. Currently focus is on doing this for the National Grid Future Energy Scenarios 2021 (FES2021).

Future thermal power plants

• Decommissioning dates for power plants
• New build power plants including date (operational) and location (or nearest bus)

Renewables

• Offshore wind locations using projected site maps and power output time series using Atlite.
• Onshore wind and PV mapping using Atlite. Needs to consider land availability, capacity projections from FES2021, and an algorithm for estimating best locations for power output.
• Simple scaling for onshore wind and PV.
• Simple scaling for other renewable types such as hydro.

Interconnectors

• Location of connections and capacities of future interconnetors
