PROBLEM

The current landing page only has a brief (all text) description of what the site does and then a long list of recent updates. This is not very compelling (as evidenced by the 53% bounce rate).

SOLUTION

The landing page should be re-designed to appeal more to people who arrive there via Google searches or general links to the site from other sites. In particular, it should make the dual value proposition of the site very clear: get a crafting plan for individual items, or browse through items for each mod.

The new landing page should be a combination of the current "Browse" and "Craft" pages with the browse toolbar above and the browse buttons below. When the user has an item to craft selected, the browse buttons should be hidden (and return if the crafting plan is cleared).

The current "What's New" content should be hidden behind a button / link in the top navigation which slides open a dialog when clicked. This should get some kind of special visual treatment when there's new content since the last time the user visited the site.

The individual mod browse elements should gain an "in use" checkbox which has the same effect as the version selector on the current "Config" page. The various pages listed in the current navigation should all go away.
