There are alternatives to SRTM, based on LIDAR, eg. https://sonny.4lima.de/ or https://registry.opendata.aws/terrain-tiles/ (latter available in https://brouter.de/brouter-web/) and from the looks of it CC-BY ;)
Would be nice to have them in Trekarta!
