ScriptSafe settings continually being reset #336

Open Snowman3456 opened 6 years ago

Snowman3456 commented 6 years ago

About 2-4 times a month now for at least a year or so, random systems have been getting the ScriptSafe preferences reset. (which sites to allow, deny etc)

I do have syncing set up which may be part of the issue. Seems to reset my settings on other systems when setting up a new system and appears to fail to properly populate new systems from cloud synced settings.

The same applies here too. Very annoying. In the begining I thought I made something wrong, but than it was going on. Every damn page I have to setup again again and again. Now I'm thinking on alternatives....

This has happened to me at least 5x times??!!! It is the most annnoying thing ever!!! I'm on Arch linux so idk if my settings are being cleared/reset after an update to chrome or a ScriptSafe update! I spent sooo much time allow / disallowing ALLLLLLL the sites I go to, and it just keeps deleting / clearing / wiping all of it, WTF!

I don't have syncing even turned on, and the extension settings are default! Why the fuck is this happening?? If it werent for this problem I'd rate the extension like 4 stars, but this major problem, makes me wanna trash the fuckin thing. What a pain in the ass it is in the first place to get all sites allowed/disallowed....only to it all deleted every few weeks or so WTF. Literally fuck this extension

I have this as well, I'm using Firefox 58.0.1 on Debian. The whitelist settings are still shown when I go to options, but when I go to inbox.google.com, I'm having to Allow or Trust things that are already in the whitelist.

This happens to me as well, in Chrome on macOS High Sierra. I don't have syncing on but every time I close browser or restart the config is lost. I go to site again, and I have save prefs again.

baryluk commented 6 years ago

The same here on Vivaldi Snapshot, Debian GNU/Linux testing, amd64. No syncing. And I have plenty of disk space. The config storage is completely broken in ScriptSafe, and make this extension absolutely unusable. I agree with others. This is annoying as fuck. I lost settings with few hundredths of domains. I do have some backups but usually they are month old at least, and in mean time another hundredth domains is added by me.

I checked source code and it uses localStorage, but no extension databases are to be found in ~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot/Default/Local Extension Settings or ~/.config/vivaldi-snapshot/Default/Local Storage/ for this extension.

I too have this Problem on my MacBook Pro and Mac Mini both running Mojave and the newest Vivaldi. On my Ubuntu rig it's the same I've had about 3-4 resets on there too.

Happened to me this week.

After a reboot all blocked/unblocked sites were gone and all setting back to default. I spent weeks allowing & blocking hundreds of items, and must now start from scratch.

I don't recall Chromium crashing.

AARRGGHH!!!

Chromium 73.0.3666.0 ScriptSafe 1.0.9.3

HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY!!!

I shut down my Mac & then rebooted. I had just been using Cromium and it was open when I clicked "shut down."

It had not crashed, settings are either deleted when it closes or when it opens.

Back to Safari for me - THIS IS BS!

It happens to me all the time.. its super annoying chromium on debian btw

sannielollie commented 3 years ago

Same issue here, still existing...

ghost commented 3 years ago

This is not a bug as I've figured out. This most likely happens when you are clearing your history, cookies etc. Newer Chromium versions have the ability to clear storage however this includes addon storage and it resets all your addons.

I have not had this happen to me since my last post in 2018.

Hmm thats weird, i never clear my browsing history or clean up my browser, but it makes sense the way you say it. I'll keep looking then :) thanks!
