Issues with booting on Mega Everdrive Pro [Model 1 VA6.5] #366

Using a Mega Everdrive Pro, the game seems to be very garbled on startup and crashes shortly after the Sega screen. The result can vary, such as crashing before the Sega screen, or the Sega screen being garbled.

VERSION USED: Stable 0.8.0 [EN] I'm unable to test the latest commit.

Over the past 8 months I have seen that release played on multiple consoles via Everdrives X5 and X7, on models ranging from VA0, VA7, a model 3, Nomad, and Mega Jet. Is your console overclocked or something? Does the pro hook any interrupts?

MDTravisYT commented 2 years ago

Might be something up with the console... it works fine on my VA7. I haven't modified either console.

I had problems with European VA 6.5 MD too, Mega Man sequel wars demos glitched too. I suspected then it would be SGDK's fault, but different games (xenocrisis, tanzer) like with original MD games behaved properly. Caps going bad? No idea tbh

edited: With my draw of luck, Andy's hard work, 0.8 ran like a dream on this exact console except rare wonkiness here and there

Console info: The video shown is running on a US NTSC model 1 VA6.5. The game works fine on my US NTSC model 1 VA7.

Don't mind me I'm just trying to organize issues with tags. "need-info" was meant as sort of a catch all that includes "can't reproduce" but maybe it would be better to separate them.

I scored another cheapo everdrive, would test some fresh build on VA6.5 , my other MD(VA4) is still out in the woods

After installing set of fresh capacitors into MD VA6.5 with seemingly good rubycon caps (read slightly out of specs, especially 220uf cap near yamaha chip) all random video glitches that happened before are gone, audio is much cleaner . I suspect someone works for mr. Koshiro now lol. All the best in 2023!
