Hi @andy-sweet ,

thanks for working on this! Just an idea, in case you seek more people to try out this plugin: put a screenshot of it in the readme + 2-3 sentences about what one can do with it practically. In my experience people are more likely to try out things if they can visually see how it would look like before installing it.

Thanks for the suggestion Robert! If this is distributed (i.e. on PyPI) or advertised (e.g. napari-hub), I'll definitely do that.

But I'm still thinking about if this is a plugin that should be distributed on its own, or whether we should break it down for parts and find upstream homes for some of this (e.g. napari itself, other plugins). So right now, it's a deliberate choice that things are a little unfriendly to users (and even developers!).
