GAL Search does not return Address Information #58

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Search for a user.
2. Most details are displayed, but most address-related information is not.
3.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

No address information displayed, however 'Office' field of GAL is shown.
Expectation is to see address details contained within GAL, under Address:
City: State: Postal Code: etc. Makes it hard to use Google Nav to find an
office/employee location!

What version of the product are you using?

1.2.3

What version of Android are you running?

2.3.3 (CyanogenMod 7.2, HTC Desire)

What version of Exchange are you connecting to?

2003

Please provide any additional information below.

Can provide screenshots of what's returned and what's expected from GAL if
needed (but offline).

Hi there

Thank you for your feedback and using my app.

My app does display ALL the fields that are returned by Exchange as a result of
the GAL query.

The bad news is that the default GAL lookup using ActiveSync does not return
the Address. As far as I know, the only fields that are returned by default are
the following

DisplayName
Phone
Office
Title
Company
Alias
FirstName
LastName
HomePhone
MobilePhone
EmailAddress

Here is what Microsoft has to say about the fields that are returned

For each GAL entry that is found, the Search command returns all the non-empty
properties that are indexed by the online ANR in the global catalog
server—for example, e-mail alias, display name, first and last names, company
name, and so on.

That being said, I am planning to switch to using EWS API for the next version
of my app instead of ActiveSync. With that I should be able to get the address
along with other organizational information. So please bear with me while I try
to get this implemented.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick response :)

Are you going to drop activesync support? EWS appears to be for Exchange 2007
and later, my employer is stuck on 2003 and we have no firm date for an update
yet :(

Cheers

Jon

Hi Jon

Thanks for your message. I have no plans to drop support for ActiveSync. My
plan was to use EWS for 2007 and above and provide additional functionality for
those users. For folks who are unfortunately still stuck on 2003, I will
continue to use ActiveSync. I did try to dig into the ActiveSync protocol to
see if I could fetch additional data (including org info etc). Unfortunately I
hit a brick wall there, but I will keep trying.

Thanks
Vivek
