These kick off VLC which then spews out an enormous torrent of rubbish onto stdout. This is very unhelpful and corrupts by terminal whenever it has a chance....

Seems a problem with get_iplayer, rather than us. We can try to catch the errors vlc shows though and kill the stream properly.
