Mushrooms in planters are still rotting #4025

Open eugeneko opened 2 months ago

Game Version

v1.19.7

Platform

None

Modded

Vanilla

SP/MP

None

Description

Mushrooms growing inside of planters are still rotting and instantly become rot if the planter is broken. This makes no sense and is annoying because I love my mushroom gardens, yet I am unable to move a planter with mushroom.

While I may understand the intent to prevent player from "storing" mushrooms forever, the drawback is both excessive and absurd.

One possible fix is to cap mushroom "rotness" to e.g. 95% while it is inside the pot. This way, the mushroom will be effectively unfit for meal making but not destroyed.

There are better options of course.

How to reproduce

  1. Add mushroom to planter
  2. Skip enough time
  3. Mushroom is rotten

I think that this should be reproducible in both MP and SP.

This is a suggestion https://www.vintagestory.at/forums/forum/5-suggestions/

@Craluminum2413 can you please clarify why this is a suggestion? Apparently I don't fully understand what qualifies as a bug then.

The mushrooms don't rot in planters. I mean, if I place the mushroom into the planter, it will stay this way forever, and it will never turn into rot, unlike e.g. pumpkins placed in the world. But it becomes rot the moment planter is broken. This behavior does not make any sense. The mushroom was fine a minute ago and it was fine for 5 years, why the hell it became rot when I touched it? Therefore, I qualify this behavior as "bug" in my head.

Mushrooms should either rot regardless of me re-planting it, or NOT rot regardless of me re-planting it.

Is this GitHub repo only for crashes and other purely technical bugs? If so, I would keep that in mind in the future. In this case, it would be nice to clarify this somewhere.

ok i will keep it open for you

This behavior happens on 100% vanilla, on all VS versions I have ever played (since 1.17 up to 1.19.8, I just updated and checked).

If this kind of issue is out of scope of this issue tracker, I absolutely do NOT insist on keeping it here, of course.

My reasoning is that I considered it a "bug" when interaction between two correctly working systems (rotting and potting) results in absurd and inconsistent behavior. It's not a "bug" in either of those systems individually, yet it is a "bug" in the whole. Therefore, I thought that this tracker is a suitable place for reporting it.
