Error: Display of Battles in Fed Chat Distorted #46

When you post a battle in Fed Chat the display seems to eliminate empty lines between attacker and defender, and moves the text and planets won up into the middle of the ship "Units Casualties Remaining" display when the ship name is too long for one line and creates a second line with no "Units Casualties Remaining" data in that line. This makes reading the battle results and distinguishing between attacker and defender very difficult. I can e-mail you a copy if that helps but I'm not sure the same thing happens in an e-mail.

Could you make a screenshot and upload it anywhere (or email it to me)? I'm doing some automatic replacement to make fedchat postings more readable, it seems it fails in some situations...

As a workaround you can disable this feature in options, as it seems unusable for you.

I unfortunately cannot turn off anything in the options page because for some reason I have no mod options displayed in my Options page. I've posted screen shots of both display's here: http://www.mediafire.com/?8vcea4tvdl94m

As you can see in the Fed Chat Distortion screenshot when the name of a ship like the A. Argonite Dreadnought or the Large Straffez Fodder is too long to display the name on one line, it automatically creates a second line, that has no ship data in it and the text from below is pulled up into that space, distorting the view of the information.

AS for the options missing, perhaps I should create a separate issue for that, and I'll leave that for you to decide how you'd prefer it.

Ok. The issue you're reporting is a feature, it's not a bug. It can be disabled in the options, if you don't like it. I'm not sure how you ended with not having the options turned on, but I'd first try to go to about:options (a special firefox page), search for "anfit" to filter relevant entries and see if there is anything fishy. Then, if nothing comes to mind, I'd reinstall the mod - remove it completely then install it again. It works for most of users after all...

I figure I'll have to reinstall, so I'll give that a try. I did take a look at the about:config page, which is what I thought you might have meant because I couldn't get the about:options page you mentioned to load. On the about config page there was so much info I couldn't determine what should or should not be there. That included a line that referenced the "anfitsgcmod.RT.Nexus.last completed update;0.3.14" line even though I have the greasemonkey mod 5.0.22 installed, as well as some very old Fed membership data. As I scrolled down the page I notice there are multiple repeat sections, or at least two of the list of shipbuilder a through h values.

Anyway, would I be correct in believing that once I've uninstalled the greasemonkey mod I can then delete all of the anfit related settings in this about:config page before I re-install it. I had previously uninstalled the previous mod 0.3.14 previously and so expect I could simply delete them as well. Thanks for the suggestions. I had figured it might be just my machine simply because as you said it seemed to be working for others, but didn't want to just assume that it was this.

Just as a followup to my last e-mail, I am using firefox 9.0.1, but still had these problems with 8.0, and I did just now uninstall the 5.0.22 mod, then opened the about:config page searched for "anfit" and the list from 0.3.14 was still there, so I reset each line,as the mod was not currently installed, exited the page and firefox, reopened and checked again the about:config page and they were now gone.

I then went back and installed the firefox mod 5.0.22 and I'm still getting no list of mod options displayed, the same as the screen shot I posted. I checked again in the options:config page and the only line that had a false value, (greasemonkey.scriptvals.http://gc.mmanir.net/Anfit's GC Mods.RT.Nexus.arelease5022;false) I changed to a true value, saved the page closed the browser reopened it, logged into gc and there still was no list of mod options on the "options" page. I've since changed it back lest things get really wonky.

If there is a specific line you could suggest I change I'm happy to try, but short of uninstalling firefox and reinstalling it, I'm not sure what else to do to fix this. Any suggestions would certainly be appreciated. Thanks again,

Heh, sometimes this kind of a problem seems to occur. I've never managed to replicate it, I've no idea what causes it. What I would do is: first find your Firefox profile (for me that's "c:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%profile%\") and look for a file named "prefs.js". Edit it with a text editor (notepad++ is a fine editor I can recommend) and cut and paste all entries related to my mod to another text file. Save it, close it and restart firefox. Now you could either try logging in to GC and see if there's still an error. You could email the backup to me if you feel there's nothing too private inside... BTW, I'm not fully positive if uninstalling version 0.3.14 of my mod really purged old prefs data. It might not have...

Thanks for the suggestion. I tried it and it didn't change much. The options page is still missing any mod options, but all mod features except those remain functional. The only thing I noticed is a change in the personalized comment under my fed name in the fed ranking view had reverted back to the previous old saying before I modified it the other day from within the about:config view. Somehow it changed back to what was there before, so the info must also be stored somewhere else.

I have attached a copy of the section I cut out of the prefs.js file. I'm not worried about the info in there. If you have any other suggestions I'm very interested in exploring further. Thanks for your help with this.

I just wanted to update you on my missing options on the options page. I tried modifying the file you mentioned and that did not correct the problem. I finally resolved the issue but it took 3 uninstall and reinstall attempts with firefox before I found the right sequence to follow. Basically it was first uninstall greasemonkey, then uninstall firefox, then shut down and restart computer then reinstall firefox then install greasemonkey then install the mod.

So I can see the options on the option page now. I am however having trouble with the authentication token. The options page gives me an error when I tried to change my Empire status. It use to say "Spits Fire Ants at You" but when I tried to change it both with "Force Status Update" and entering the new text and browsing to a new page didn't work but the error I received in both cases was:

"Authentication token you provided is incorrect. Check if you've correctly copied your token from gc.mmanir.net to a form field in mod options."

And actually when I browse to the "Ranking for RT Server" page I still do see that old text, so it's not deleted. Of course I recopied the Authentication Token to be sure it was correctly input on the options page.

I can enter this info on your main github page if you'd prefer, but again am thinking the problem may be particular to my system. I am currently using mod 5.0.28

If you have any ideas about this authentication token error, I'd appreciate your help with it. I'm using a different e-mail address for that, as your http://gc.mmanir.net/ page seems to prefer a google address to log in to, so I created a gmail address: nexus.savage@gmail.com which I used to create the Authentication Token.

Anyway, suggestions are appreciated.

Heh, sometimes this kind of a problem seems to occur. I've never managed to replicate it, I've no idea what causes it. What I would do is: first find your Firefox profile (for me that's "c:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%profile%\") and look for a file named "prefs.js". Edit it with a text editor (notepad++ is a fine editor I can recommend) and cut and paste all entries related to my mod to another text file. Save it, close it and restart firefox. Now you could either try logging in to GC and see if there's still an error. You could email the backup to me if you feel there's nothing too private inside... BTW, I'm not fully positive if uninstalling version 0.3.14 of my mod really purged old prefs data. It might not have...

And actually when I browse to the "Ranking for RT Server" page I still do see that old text, so it's not deleted. Of course I recopied the Authentication Token to be sure it was correctly input on the options page.

I can enter this info on your main github page if you'd prefer, but again am thinking the problem may be particular to my system. I am currently using mod 5.0.28

If you have any ideas about this authentication token error, I'd appreciate your help with it. I'm using a different e-mail address for that, as your http://gc.mmanir.net/ page seems to prefer a google address to log in to, so I created a gmail address: nexus.savage@gmail.com which I used to create the Authentication Token.

Anyway, suggestions are appreciated.

Heh, sometimes this kind of a problem seems to occur. I've never managed to replicate it, I've no idea what causes it. What I would do is: first find your Firefox profile (for me that's "c:\Users\%user%\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\%profile%\") and look for a file named "prefs.js". Edit it with a text editor (notepad++ is a fine editor I can recommend) and cut and paste all entries related to my mod to another text file. Save it, close it and restart firefox. Now you could either try logging in to GC and see if there's still an error. You could email the backup to me if you feel there's nothing too private inside... BTW, I'm not fully positive if uninstalling version 0.3.14 of my mod really purged old prefs data. It might not have...
