Apple News displays annoying ads— constantly. Can they be blocked?

Hi @odysseus90210. Unfortunately, the version of Apple News which is available where I live is quite stripped-down, which doesn't make it possible for me to investigate further. I'll keep the issue open in case I get my hands on the full version of the app.
