Working with archives #1

Hey, thanks for providing binaries for this wonderful software!

  1. I have Winrar installed on disk, but how can I work with RAR archives in DN? When I try to enter an archive, nothing happens.
  2. The browsing of zip archives works, but when unpacking, there is an error of pkunzip not found. Winrar can be used to uncompress zip archives in Windows, but how to configure DN to use it?

Press F10 ->Options->Archives

Yes, I know, I went there and gave the full path to rar.exe, for Rar archives. Still, DN does not enter rar archives and no decompress dialog at Alt+F2 on archive. What is missing?

image I don't know, it works for me

Is there a place where the paths in which DN searches for executables can be configured?

I added the path to rar exe to user variable PATH. Still DN does not browse/unpack rar archives.

But Necromancer's Dos Navigator from http://ndn.muxe.com/ works perfectly with rar archives: pack, unpack, browse. So there must be something else in your fork.

PS: I noticed you were active in http://forums.muxe.com in the past years (as user AngelsHolocaust). Why did you fork v2.14 and not fork a more up to date build v3.00?

angelbbs commented 2 weeks ago

Because it's not Necromancer's Dos Navigator, but DN/2 I do not know who he is AngelsHolocaust

Ok then ;)

Back on the subject, if we find out how to properly configure archives in DN, this thread may help others with the same problem. It should not be closed.

rar.exe is it launched from the command line? or "not recognized as an internal or external command"?

ags1234 commented 2 weeks ago

Yes, user environmental variable is correctly configured and rar.exe can be launched from anywhere. But I am guessing that DN probably had implemented it's own mechanism to handle paths to utilities. Since NDN works fine with RAR archives, I am inclined to think there's something with config of DN 2.14.
