Seems to be js related.

Craft Pro 2.5.2740 PmM 2.1.2

Creating a default grouping slows to a halt and eventually ends the tab process forcing a reload.

Will do! I have been poking around but my javascript skills fall short when it comes to why anything like that would happen... but I also reached out to P&T, even though I am now scared of Brad after watching his support talk, because it also seems to be an issue with SuperTable and customizing Matrix fields which makes me think there is a core issue with these types of modals and 3rd party plug-ins right now in 2.5.
