Inserting media in version 3 does not function the same as version 2.3 #110

Compare similar content with embedded media on two different versions of
digress.it:

Version 2.3 (hosted by Trinity College)
http://ontheline.wp.trincoll.edu/2011/02/04/essay-part-2/

Version 3 (hosted by digress.it)
http://jacktest.digress.it/chapter3/

It appears that v3 handles media, captions, and external links very differently
than v2.3 -- in some cases better, and others not. Here are examples I tested
in Safari & FF for Mac.

A) Inserted media images with external links:
v2.3 allows me to insert an external link to point users to the original
source. But in v3, the comment tool interferes with clicking on an image,
preventing most users from going to external link.

Although there is a small clickable spot near bottom of image in v3, it does
not correctly handle the long Google Doc URL in the first image. But it does
handle URLs in other images on the page, if you can find the "hot spot."

B) Captions
v2.3 was very inconsistent about handling images with captions, and in my case,
usually made the entire image invisible on the page. I'm pleased to see that v3
displays images with captions, but they do not format as nicely as they should.

thanks for continuing to improve digress.it

Jack, can you provide an example of an image with caption using digressit v3?

Are those actual WordPress captions, using the short tag [caption] on here:

http://jacktest.digress.it/chapter3/

Thanks

In the link above for chapter 3, none of the embedded images have correctly
functioning external URL links. The commenting interface appears to block the
user's ability to click the image to follow an external link.

First, I tried embedded two images WITHOUT captions (paragraphs 3 and 5).

Then I tried an embedded image WITH a WordPress short-tag caption (paragraph
7).

Sidenote: At least the captions appear to be showing up in digressit v3. In the
prior version, I could never get these to work consistently.

thanks for looking into this
Jack

the first two images (paragraphs 3 and 5) do NOT include captions. But the next
image (paragraph 7) does include a WordPress short-tag caption.
