Error occurs with the latest Anki 2.1.46. Downgrading Anki to 2.1.44 fixes the issue. Alternatively, setting the "What to show in Anki browser after upload?" option to "Do not update Anki browser" avoids the issue entirely (but is way inconvenient).

Seems like a bug with AnkiConnect/Anki, so I'll probably need to report a bug to those projects.

I committed a workaround for the issue in the latest version of the extension. Also reported what I could figure out in the anki-connect issues page (might look into it more later if I feel up for diving into Anki addons), so this can be closed.
