Hey Murtaza,
Thanks for reaching out and for your interest in ML4Sci. Before answering any questions I want to remind you that ML4Sci is a huge organization with several umbrella projects, each corresponding to one of the several physical domains.
- Project Selection: How did you choose your project? Were there any specific criteria you used?
I picked ML4Sci because it goes very well with my background in ML for astrophysics/cosmology that I've been working on for a while. That being said, contributors don't necessarily require experience in the relevant physical science.
- Application Process: What were the key points you focused on in your application?
You'll have to attempt and complete the specified evaluation tasks, after which you'll need to draft a project proposal. The mentors will release more details on this when the project lists are out next cycle.
- Mentorship: How was your experience with the mentors? Any advice on building a strong rapport?
The mentors are great, and will present a lot to learn from.
Good luck ! Anirudh
Hey Anirudh,
Thanks for your quick response and valuable insights. I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions.
I understand that ML4Sci is a large organization with diverse projects. While I don't have direct experience in specific physical sciences, I'm eager to learn and contribute to projects that align with my skills in machine learning and data science.
I'm curious to know if there are opportunities to contribute to ongoing projects or smaller-scale initiatives within ML4Sci, even before the official GSoC application cycle? This would allow me to gain hands-on experience and build a stronger relationship with potential mentors.
I'm excited about the upcoming GSoC cycle and look forward to the project list release. I'll be sure to follow the instructions carefully and submit a strong proposal.
Thanks again for your guidance.
Best regards, Murtaza Sadriwala
Hi Anirudh,
I hope this message finds you well.
My name is Murtaza Sadriwala, and I'm interested in applying to Google Summer of Code 2025 with ML4SCI . I noticed that you were a successful contributor to the organization in 2024, and I'm really impressed by your work on Resilient Physics-Informed Anomaly Detection and Inference of Lensing Images on Sparse Datasets.
I'm particularly interested in projects related to Machine Learning and Data Science. My Tech stack is Python, PyTorch, Scikit-Learn, Scipy. I'm reaching out to see if you might have any tips or advice for someone who's aiming to contribute to the same organization.
I'd really appreciate any insights you could share, such as:
Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response.
