Zuzana from EURAXESS:

_It is possible to switch from the Temporary protection visa to the Long-term residence permit for the purpose of scientific research, but the application must be personally submitted at the Czech Embassy/Consulate in Ukraine.

Therefore, maybe it would be better to submit the application at the Czech Embassy for LTRP first with all the relevant documents and then to come to the Czech Republic and apply for a Temporary protection visa. I am also sure that the application for a LTRP will be approved within 30 days, Ivan does not need to visit the Embassy once again to collect his entry visa, but he can immediately after the approval visit the Ministry of Interior – workplace Letna and take his biometrics for his LTRP for the purpose of scientific research. The good thing here is that the LTRP counts for the period for Permanent residency (Temporary protection visa not).

The most time consuming document is the Criminal records check as it must be officially translated to the Czech language (with a seal of the certified translator). Ivan, please, start with this document first._

Me: Hello,

My name is Ivan Kovalenko. I am going to study for PhD for 3 years at Charles University in Prague (I am already enrolled). I also am going to get research contract at IEAP of CTU in Prague.

I have finished the procedure of obtaining permission to move from Ukraine to the Czech Republic for permanent residence (I have a corresponding stamp in my passport).

The lady from Euraxess told me that in my case I should apply for a "Long-term residence permit for the purpose of scientific research". I would be grateful if you could confirm or deny this information and provide more details.

Czech embassy: Dear Mr. Kovalenko,
