New versions of the slicer have been released but this repo still contains a very old version of the slicer. Will updates be coming or should this repo be considered dead? If so please use the github archive functionality

chrivers commented 1 year ago

Just a note: since the software is based on (mostly) GPL3 code bases, withholding modifications is in direct violation of the software license.

So simply archiving the code is not an option.

For the record, I've contacted AnkerMake support, and asked for the full, up-to-date source code for both projects. Let's see what happens :)

Any response yet, @chrivers?

We noticed that your repositories were not updated at all since first publishing. Please update those repositories first to comply with the GPL licence.

@tjorim

Derp, I forgot to post the reply here.

Let me quote the mail:

Dear <my email>,

Thanks for your message and let us know your concern.

We will have new slicer in the next month and we will update source code then.

Let me know if you have other questions.

Best regards

This was on 2023-01-24, and they still haven't released any source code updates (as far as I know).

bubnikv commented 1 year ago

All right then. Please inform them that there will be no more PrusaSlicer profile updates until they stop violating open source licenses. @rtyr

doesn't matter if they have a new slicer out, even if the new slicer has source code, they have to distribute the source code for all the releases they've already made, even if they abandon it.

If you distribute GPL software you have to provide the source code, the support status or how new a release it was is irrelevant.
