Sync issue with one set of items on computer/web and another on phone #3180

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1.I downloaded anki to a new computer. It did not download my old files.
2. I added new cards/decks to the anki on my computer
3. I tried to sync and thought that uploading would just add the two new decks I created
to the old account. Instead, it wiped it out. I still have several decks on my phone.

every time you repeat the steps above? Or did it
happen only one time? I only synced once. I'm afraid to sync from my phone and lose
all the information I just put into anki on my computer and vice versa syncing from
phone.

What version of AnkiDroid are you using? (Decks list > menu > About > Look
at the title) 2.0.28
On what version of Android? (Home screen > menu > About phone > Android
version)VS980 4G LTE

Please provide any additional information below.
I'm looking for some way to create a backup or something of at least one side (phone
or computer) and then merge the two sets together. Or at least a way to put one set
of decks on a different profile or something so I don't lose it.

Hi, I recommend doing the following:

1) Download latest alpha version of AnkiDroid

https://github.com/ankidroid/Anki-Android/releases

2) choose "export" from the menu

3) connect device to pc, and copy the file "collection.apkg" file from the AnkiDroid
folder on your device to the desktop on your pc.

4) Rename it to "collection-AnkiDroid.apkg" (very important)

5) Double click on the renamed file, and anki will import it

6) check that the two files have been merged correctly

7) if everything is correct, press sync button in anki desktop

8) choose to upload your collection to anki web

9) open anki web and check that the new collection is uploaded

10) press sync button in AnkiDroid

11) choose to download from anki web

If everything looks good in AnkiDroid then you're finished
