SYM key doesn't pop-up character picker #261

Open GoogleCodeExporter opened 8 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 8 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Connect to and Login to your favorite server via SSH
2. Press the SYM button on the Physical Keyboard
3. Watch how nothing happens.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
The Extra Symbols window should temporarily overlay above the terminal window
to allow
input of the special characters which are not accessible on the physical
keyboard. As these
characters are important for Python development, specifically { } [ ], entering
these
characters is important. Currently the virtual keyboard can overlay in
Landscape mode to
enter these characters, but only if the physical keyboard is closed. Thus the
inclusion of the
SYM key and overlay when using the physical keyboard.

What version of the product are you using (you can see this by using Menu
-> About in the Host List)?
Version 1.6.1 r464

What type of system are you trying to connect to?
Occurs on various Linux systems

Its a great product and a pleasure to use when travelling. Thank you for
making it and
thank you for your assistance in this matter.

Same issue on Motorola Backflip. It's not a blocker, as you can use the software
keyboard, but it requires closing the phone, opening the keyboard software,
digging
through options until you get symbols, then re-opening the phone so you can
continue
typing as normal.

I just submitted a change that should fix this problem. Download the latest
version from http://connectbot.org/ and let me know if it works.

I just tried the new version and the ALT keys are now working on the Cliq
keyboard! Yes!

Unfortunately, pressing the SYM key (which should pop up a menu on screen of
additional special characters that are not available via ALT, including things
like < > { } and ~). Some of these are accessible by typing ALT-SHIFT-key (<
and >, for example), but not all of them.

It's still much much more usable on the Cliq now. Thanks!

I meant to say that pressing the SYM key *doesn't* pop up a menu for the
additional keys. It just displays a box. Running "echo SYM | od -x" shows
"bcee 0a81".

Oops, yes, that SYM key is different. I only fixed the ALT mappings. Reopening
this bug and renaming it.

SYM key does not work on T-Mobile G2 either. And Alt+Shift combinations don't
work, so I am pretty much out of luck...

There is a fix for this in the irssi connectbot build, it should be merged to
the connectbot tree. The fix also contains a virtual sym key

looks good, i recommend reseting metaState to 0 after showing the
CharPickerDialog.

When will this ALT + SPACE = SYM key functionality be merged into the main code
line? irssi is cool and all, but i would like to stick to the main branch.

Also, the long-press = menu is a cool feature of the irssi fork, since AFAIK
long-press isnt used right now?
