are you discriminating against pycharm users?

by "it" i mean the folder, not the gitignore entry

So you manually added it to .gitignore? That's even worse.

Here's what you should do:

# ~/.gitconfig
[core]
excludesfile = ~/.gitignore_global

# ~/.gitignore_global
.idea
