There is the recently opened files menu under File, but you need GIO support
for that
to work.

I find this decision unfortunate. I'd like to switch from smplayer to
gnome-mplayer because I think that smplayer performs really badly compared to
pure mplayer; I'd hoped that gnome-mplayer is better in this respect. But I
don't want to lose position saving :(
