Forgive for bad English language. I from Russia, and I use the program the
translator.

No, at review of films, in case of installation Mplayer 1.0 RC3, automatic
loading of external subtitles in format ASS. Subtitles in format ASS now
need to be loaded manually (that inconveniently)...

Thus, in case of loading of subtitles in format ASS in manually, they work,
but are not displayed in the list of subtitles.

I have checked up all many times. My errors now are not present.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Install MPlayer 1.0 RC3
2. To start a film with external subtitles in format ASS.

If the subtitles are external, they need to have the exact same name as the 
media
except for the extension, for them to be auto loaded.

Can you run gnome-mplayer with the -v option from the commandline so I can see 
the
output of mplayer.

Also it does not appear that mplayer 1.0rc3 has not been released yet, at least
according to the website.

I know it. I use subtitles not the first day.

OK.

Output Gnome Mplayer 0.5-0.6 (united in one file). In both cases MPlayer 1.0 
RC3.

I, have probably, badly compiled Gnome MPlayer 0.6, but it shows films only 
with RC3.

The ubuntu package is not the official one, but probably close enough. 

So you are saying this worked fine in gnome-mplayer 0.9.5 and now does not work 
in
0.9.6? Or it does not work after you upgraded to mplayer 1.0rc3? 

From the logs, I don't see any obvious problems. I guess I do not understand the
problem yet.

Yes, the mplayer 1.0rc2 is MUCH too old... the Ubuntu packagers have refused to
update numerous times.

But if you use gnome-mplayer 0.9.5 and mplayer 1.0rc2 everything works 
correctly?

Automatic Subtitle loading is controlled by mplayer, so perhaps something is
incorrect with the 1.0rc3 that you got. I have tested automatic subtitle 
loading here
with gnome-mplayer 0.9.6 and mplayer from SVN and everything appears to work 
properly.

Subtitles in format ASS cease to boot at upgrade to MPlayer RC3 (both in Gnome
MPlayer 0.5, and in Gnome MPlayer 0.6).

Also, Gnome MPlayer 0.6 (at least for me) does not work with MPlayer versions of
lower than RC3.

Do subtitles come up when running mplayer from the command line by itself?

Sounds like you need to open a bug with the people that created mplayer 1.0rc3 
and
tell them. Because of mplayer does not load them, there is nothing I can do 
about it.

With Mplayer RC2, Gnome MPlayer 0.5 works correctly.

But Gnome MPlayer 0.6 (at least for me) does not work with MPlayer RC2.

MPlayer works. SMPlayer too works.

I guess I still don't understand what you mean by "works". Also when using
gnome-mplayer 0.9.6 do you have the option "Show Subtitles by Default" checked? 
It is
the last item on the Subtitles page in Edit -> Preferences

Also that fact that gnome-mplayer 0.9.5 and mplayer 10.rc2 "works" and 
gnome-mplayer
0.9.5 and mplayer 1.0rc3 does "not work" leads me to think there is problem with
mplayer 1.0rc3

MPlayer RC3, in itself, correctly loads subtitles in format ASS, and correctly 
works.

SMplayer, correctly, with RC3, loads subtitles in format ASS.

Also, SMPlayer correctly works with RC3.

Gnome Mplayer 0.5-0.6 (c RC3) does not load subtitles in format ASS.

Also Gnome Mplayer 0.6 does not work with RC2

Yes.

Subtitles in format SRT are loaded correctly.

Subtitles in format ASS are incorrectly loaded only.

-af-add is an "audio filter" has nothing to do with ass subtitles. And nothing 
with
subtitles other than some coloring was changed between 0.9.5 and 0.9.6. (Please
reference the correct version numbers, I was confused because there is a 
version 0.5
and 0.6 that are VERY old of gnome-mplayer)

Sorry... 0.9.5 and 0.9.6.

Is output with RC2 ("Also Gnome Mplayer 0.6 does not work with RC2").

0.9.6 (with RC2) not only does not load subtitles in format ASS, 0.9.6 (with 
RC2)
DOES NOT WORK COMPLETELY.

With RC3 works, but does not load subtitles in format ASS.

This audio
filter provides the data for the audio meter. 

There is a possibility it to correct?

For example to make check on the version?

gnome-mplayer 0.9.6 is not designed to work with RC2, this is not a bug.

To solve the ASS problem
Can you post the output of gnome-mplayer -v 0.9.5 + mplayer 1.0rc2 and 
gnome-mplayer
0.9.6 + mplayer 1.0rc3.

I want to see the differences between them as to why they may not work, but I am
guessing that it is a mplayer build issue. You could also try disabling 
"Embedded
Fonts" in the Subtitle setting.

I found a .ogm movie with a .ssa subtitle on my HD and it loads correctly. With 
my
mplayer and my gnome-mplayer.

I'm using mplayer

MPlayer SVN-r29343-4.4.0 (C) 2000-2009 MPlayer Team

Which is newer than your "RC3" so you might see if your packager will try a 
newer SVN
release.

I really have no desire to make gnome-mplayer support such an old version of 
mplayer.
I have asked the Ubuntu packager to upgrade his mplayer numerous times and his
response was "no" cause ther was not an mplayer release. Even though this old 
release
causes many problems. The mplayer team specifically have stated that people 
should
use SVN and should not be using rc2. Also there are many many bugs in rc2 that a
simple upgrade would fix.

The problem remained.

Output 0.9.6 c RC3 is above.

Here output 0.9.5 c RC2.

Look code SMPlayer, it correctly works with RC3...

Can you post your ~/.mplayer/config file?

So the file has japanese audio, and english subtitles and you want the russian
subtitle loaded which are in an external file, correct?

In the Edit menu are you seeing anything where you can select the subtitle to 
choose?

I have a feeling that I might need to get these files from you to solve this 
issue.
Since none of the files I have are exhibiting the problem.

Yes.

Only presence of the built in English subtitles optionally...

I made some changes to SVN, can you test them for me? It should switch to the
subtitles from the file, when the file is found, if the mplayer documentation 
is correct.

Gnome Mplayer 0.9.7. The problem remained.

IMHO. Problem solution is search of subtitles directly Gnome MPlayer (Gnome 
MPlayer
searches for subtitles and transfers them in MPlayer (an example: mplayer 
-noautosub
-ass Kurenai_01.mkv -sub Kurenai_01.ass)).

Thus it is possible to make "indistinct" definition of subtitles (a filename of
subtitles similar addressed to a video file, but a filename of subtitles of not
identically filename of video).

So, as far as I understand, becomes in SMPlayer.

The subtitles are loading, it just appears the wrong one is being selected 
automatically.

And yes, you can set any file as the subtitle

Use Edit->Set Subtitle
Or in the playlist right click on the filename and choose Set Subtitle

Can you try this?

In Edit-Preferences on the Subtitle tab, select the the subtitle encoding to be
blank, I think it is set to unicode by default.

The problem I am running into is that the subtitle is being loaded, but mplayer 
is
not identifing the LANG of the loaded subtitle..

This is the english one loading

ID_SUBTITLE_ID=0

ID_SID_0_LANG=eng

This is what we get from the Russian one
ID_FILE_SUB_ID=0

Yes. It works.

Thanks for idea. Though somehow, now, it is possible to look. If in the menu 
"Select
Subtitle Language" it was displayed (subtitles there are not added..., only 
built
subtitles are shown), it was even better...

Ok, that was not fun.... SVN has fixes in it now that work this way

1. If there an external subtitle file, default to it
2. Add to Subtitle Languages menu a new entry "FILE 0" when a external subtitle 
is
encountered

The pair of questions not to create a new theme.

1. Whether addition in a graphic interface, or though in gconf, such necessary
functions as is planned: "Direct Rendering" (accelerating video), and a choice

these functions it is necessary to use command line options, and the graphic
interface will make their inclusion more convenient (and simple for beginners).

2. In MPlayer if to change configuration (to replace codepage subtitles, for 
example)
for its activation it is enough to restart a video file (SMplayer activates at 
once).
But Gnome MPlayer, for this purpose, it is necessary to restart completely 
(that not
so conveniently). Whether it will be corrected?

Gnome MPlayer, now, already is the worthy frontend to MPlayer (and in case of
solution of the above-named questions, it will be even better).
