What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. play a video with gnome-mplayer
2. mplayer command uses 50% cpu
3. play same video with gmplayer
4. gmplayer process uses 12% cpu

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
mplayer in gnome-mplayer uses roughly the same as running gmplayer

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
gnome-mplayer 0.9.6 and Mplayer SVN-r29352-4.4.0

Please provide any additional information below.

What video and audio outputs are you using?
Do you have deinterlacing enabled and what about frame drop? (Edit ->
Preferences ->
MPlayer)
