Ok, some of the plans include:
* Moving the record/stop button out of the menu and into the main screen - it
will be initially visible, then fade away, and come back whenever the user
touches the screen, just like the side arrows. This lets you start recording
very quickly, too.
* Dark theme compatibility
* Configurable stats (already filed as a separate issue)
* Pinch zoom for the chart
* First start-up shouldn't show so many screens (the user wants to start using
it) - e.g. can we get rid of the EULA, maybe move it to the first time the user
tries to upload?

I would love to see the start screen improved! Actually I already started
sketching this a few days ago. (Attaching files as a sneak preview)
However, I think it should be decided first WHAT screen should actually be the
start screen.
I already posted this to the mailing lists and now filed this as a feature
request. My opinion is that this issue here depends on that one.

In short, I think the start screen should be the tracks list. I can definitely
see more detail improvements on that screen, too!

I'd also like to see the main screen cleaned up a bit.
- Start/Stop (and Pause) on main screen would be great as long as there is user
confirmation to avoid accidental presses. It might be cool if holding the start
button made a slider appear that allowed the user to define a delay before
start all with the same press/hold/slide/release action.

I love MyTracks and use it every day. sometimes multiple times a day.
I agree with the ease of use suggestions.
I'd love to see:
- if it would remember all my saving settings and be a one click save. Save to
google maps, select the user automatically etc. I realize there are a lot of
options so it would be nice if each user can have a/some personal profile(s)
for saving.
- it would be really nice if I could pause and start with having to use the
touch screen or menus.
- it would be great if I could see all my co-runners that are using mytracks at
the same time and location as I am. this is a natural social networking
application.
I apologize if this is not the correct place for this message.
Thanks,
Ralph

I will lead this effort when we agree on the design.

Please consider issue 494 (merged above) for the home screen redesign. I would
really like to have a waypoint button on the main screen.

Yup, it will be considered, I just consolidated the issues to be easier to
track.

(just removing OpSys-Android label, all issues are in Android anyway)

Now that I am familiar with My Tracks I find the side arrows convenient but I'm
not sure the controls that "fade away" as proposed for the record button work
well for new users.
I used My Tracks for a long time before I discovered those side arrows that
fade away and the extra screens they reveal.

I see the new style that's evolving in Android is to have side-sliding views
for this case (e.g. you can see it in the Google+ app). I think that's the
direction we'll want to go.
