My Tracks Stops Recording Track if Motorola Droid Screen Isn't On #88

Closed GoogleCodeExporter closed 9 years ago

GoogleCodeExporter commented 9 years ago
What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Begin Recording a Track
2. Either press the power button to turnoff the screen or allow the screen
to power down on its own
3. Allow several minutes to elapse and then turn the screen back on

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

The expected output would be that My Tracks would still be recording the track.

Instead the Track will have stopped recording and My Tracks will not have
recorded for the entire time period.

What version of MyTracks are you using? On what version of Android? On what
phone?

My Tracks 1.0.15

Device: sholes
Model: Droid
Release: 2.1-update1
SDK: 7
Build: 29593

Motorola Droid

And how do you generally manage for your device to never turn off during the
time of the track? (I agree for the bug, but let's say that we need to stick
with it: how do you manage to still record a track?) Thanks.

As a test, I set my screen time out to 30 minutes and every few minutes I would
drag around on the map to keep the application active. Obviously those wouldn't
be normal operating conditions, but it was the only way I could keep the track
recording.

This problem began after I downloaded Eclair from Verizon. Is it possibly an
issue with how Eclair is managing applications and services when memory gets
low?

It must be Eclair, because, to test it, I just did a 2 hours bike ride, and my
whole journey (~50 km) was recorded. I set my screen time out to 30 mins. too,
and I woke up the device (from sleep mode) once or twice (I had apparently
waited > 30 mins as it was in sleep mode), but my bike counter gives +/- the
same number of kilometers for the journey, so this must be your version or
something like that. (Note that I have not tried riding and letting it in
apparent sleep mode, i.e. with screen automatically turned off, for *a long
time*.)

Which version are you using? I'm using 1.0.15 (last version).

Well, are you sure that you did not turn off the device?

Have a look at this:
http://androidforums.com/android-lounge/116160-turn-screen-off-but-let-cpu-etc-w
orking-if-screen.html#post1083178.

I was told there that `Press the power button once and that turns the screen
off and the wifi etc stays on'.

I'm having the same issue as OP but on a Samsung Galaxy S. If I start a
recording and constantly keep looking at it every few minutes, mytracks keeps
recording the journey.

If I start a recording and just leave my device alone, the recording stops
after a few minutes (about 3)

Weird. I always save my bike rides using `My Tracks', and I simply turn the
screen of by pressing the power button. I'm using an HTC Desire, and it works
pretty well, as expected. Did you try pressing the power button to turn the
screen off?

Motorola milestone here on 2.1, exactly the same behavior for me; once the
screen locks, the recording is gone. Using long timeouts seems to work, but
ruins the usability of the app for some activities... no difference between
button and timeout for me though.

I'm using Android 2.1 too. Do you use the last version which is on the Market?
If so, that might be a hardware issue (it is possible that Motorola sleep mode
is not recognized as the same as HTC Desire's one).

This problem may have been addressed in the newest 1.0.17. I had this problem
until this last version and have been quite happy.

There were many errors that might have caused this. I hope this is fixed for
everyone. No-one seems to have complained for a few months.

I also am having the same problem - Motorola Droid Bionic, Gingerbread 2.3.4,
My Tracks 1.1.9

For me it only happens when I am playing music at the same time with the stock
music player for the Galaxy S. I am running 2.3.4 Gingerbread.
