Missing begin of document

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. If I compile the example files  with LaTeX, there are some errors, the first 
is: Missing \begin{document}

What is the expected output? What do you see instead?

What version of the product are you using? On what operating system?
Operating system: Windows 7 Enterpise, 64 bit, MikTeX 64 bit, TeXMaker.

Please provide any additional information below.
At the page of the project I found that if I have this problem my xkeyval 
package is too old, but I use a version from 2012, and this is the up to date 
version.

Ran update manager for MikTex and the outcome did not change when attempting to 
compile the example files with Latex, namely the first error that is is missing 
\begin{document}
