Just refactoring

I shouldn't have probably touched it.. but it looked so confusing. If you think it's unnecessary risk, just say, we could close it.

the db_create function was split. no logic changes
in main:
- I removed/moved exceptions to the end of the logical block
- It causes indentation changes that look spooky
