Feature module configuration #7

A sequel heading towards my bugfixes on kernel OOPSes. Added some module description for modinfo output and some tweaking parameters for module loading.

This PR incorporates the previous request, so please, merge in order or ask for rebasing my PRs. Sometimes I mess things up, 'cause git is not my primary eco system.

I tried to change things for this PR7 to start from current master for two hours or so. It ended up in a messier history than now, as always, when git gets in my way.

If you prefer a large squashed commit for review, instead of smaller topic related commits, please, drop me a note. This works out.

Otherwise I'd kindly ask to ignore the already known parts of the PR during review, which is everything before and including "Make kernel dir selectable for cross compilation out of different sources."
