Hi @mdtanker ,
Thank you for reaching out and sorry for the late reply. This is indeed not possible with the current version of Bedmap1 but we will try to publish a new version of Bedmap1 with data published as individual surveys.
But if you want to study the Ross Ice sheet, I invite you to have a look at the new release of Bedmap2 and Bedmap3 as we have now released all the underlying data with data in that area. You can have a look at the portal here: https://bedmap.scar.org/.
.
Cheers, Alice
Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct place to submit issues associated with the Bedmap datasets, please direct me elsewhere if there's somewhere better 😃
For my research, I've needed to use bed/bathymetry elevation point data for the Ross Ice Shelf region. Since Bedmap2 didn't publish the point data, I've used the compilation from Bedmap1. I previously accessed it at this link, which now seems not to work for downloading the data.
There was an issue with that dataset, which still seems to be present with the newly compiled Bedmap1 point data. I accessed the new Bedmap1 point data here.
The issue with the original dataset was that a set of radar flights (Missions 41 and 42) over the Ross Ice Shelf reported spurious sub-shelf bed elevations. When plotted against a background of Bedmap2 bed elevations, you can easily see the issue:
This was an easy fix with the old dataset. I just excluded Missions 41 and 42 based on the supplied Mission ID column (right figure). There are still 4 spurious points which I just removed manually.
This still seems to be an issue in the new Bedmap1 point data, but unfortunately Mission ID's are included anymore to allow excluding those flights. Also there are now lots for datapoints of the Ross Ice Shelf with obviously wrong bed elevations (see left image below)
It looks like the majority of the spurious data have bed elevations equal to 0m, so I've filtered based on that which has worked alright. But this has just given me the equivalent of the left image above, from the old dataset.
I assume this is some issue in the workflow to do with filling nodata values for bed elevations with 0's. Any help for getting back to working dataset (since the old version with Mission ID's is not available anymore) would be much appreciated!
Cheers, Matt
