Calculate SC of SF6 #221

Hi! Thank you for making the PAGE model open source! I'm looking for a reasonable estimate of the social cost of SF6. I found the paper Hope (2006) with a SC of SF6 for about $200,000 /tSF6. I was wondering if I can get a more up to date estimate and ended up finding this model. I noticed in the climate model that SF6 is not included in this version? Is there a way that I can calculate the SC_SF6 using this model? Thanks!

Hi @Janeyyt. PAGE 2009 has the equivalent system that PAGE 2002 had for SF6-- since SF6 has a very low concentration, it can be treated linearly. In PAGE 2009, the parameters for this "linear gas" model were updated-- I think to capture other low-concentration anthropogenic gases.

If you want a more up-to-date estimate, the starting point should probably be either PAGE-ICE (https://github.com/openmodels/PAGE-ICE) or the active development version of PAGE, PAGE-2020 (https://github.com/openmodels/PAGE-2020). But you will need to check if the linear gases parameters match the most recent IPCC parameter estimates, and if not it will be because SF6 has been combined with other gases. So then you'll need to divide it out again, by adding two linear gas cycles with different parameters.
