Difficulty returning to Duckduckgo search page? #427

I use Duckduckgo as my default search engine in Lightning. Since the latest update I've had to tap the back button two or three times to return to DDG search results from a webpage. It goes like this:

  1. Search X on Duckduckgo
  2. Click on a search result to go to domain.com
  3. From domain.com, I want to return to search results; usually just one back tap away. Now it takes two or three taps, otherwise domain.com page just reloads.

I haven't checked this with other search sites like Google, so can't determine if it's a DDG or lightning issue, but it seems to coincide with the latest Lightning update?

I'm guessing that domain.com site is somehow messing with back button history.

haverholm commented 8 years ago

It's a good guess, but it happens with any site ("domain.com" is just a made-up example) and without exception. FWIW, I'm on a Nexus 5x, Android 6.0.1, PureNexus rom.

What is in your browsing history? Multiple entries? Maybe you are redirected from DDG to search result by multiple redirection pages?

haverholm commented 8 years ago

The behavior is similar to multiple redirects, but my browsing history shows only single entries.

Im having the same problem. Running AOSPA on oneplus x...

I also have this issue, it is probably caused by r.duckduckgo.com which redirects you to the page you are trying to return from. There is a need for an algorithm that detects pages that automatically redirect you to be made, in order to solve this issue.

That was my conclusion as well, but the issue is still only in recent versions.

I find that reverting to version 4.0.2a from f-droid archive solves the problem, as well as that of Lightning's file size (and function) bloat in later versions: it is once more a simple, blazing fast, small footprint browser.
