Not sure I understand the question. Given that live-coding environments are useful in 2D, why wouldn't you want one in VR? Live-coding adds fast-feedback to VR.
Perhaps the question was supposed to be "What does VR add to live coding?", to which the answer is "immersion". Being able to live-code the environment, while you're in the environment and being able to take advantage of VR's unlimited space to customize the world to your needs on-the-fly.
We already have 2D live coding environments, why do we need one in VR?
