Drop-in substitute for original binaries? #12

More of a question than an issue. Are the aailable Windows binaries a drop-in substitute for the original author's binaries? A second question. I'm using simpleDLNA on an old Thinkpad T61 with an Intel Core Duo and wif. Can I use a LAN connection instead to improve performance?
