dative subject with ÞURFA? #308

In the sentence below, is "öngvu" the subject of the subordinate clause?

hann lét kasta suplicatium sinna undirmanna í rennandi vatn , svo að þyrfti öngvu upp á þær að andsvara .

it is the direct object of (and)svara. þyrfti has an expletive subject.

actually, the IP-INF might be the subject, so we probably don't add an expletive here
