Delayed and stuttering effects on Razer Blackwidow V2 TE #1216

Open johnmarshall515 opened 6 years ago

Expected behavior:

The animations should be instant and smooth when they are initiated. No problems when tested with a Cooler Master Masterkeys Pro S. Had the same issue occur on two different Razer Blackwidow V2 TE keyboards. Bitmap animation is smooth.

Actual behavior:

Animations are delayed and stutter on every profile except the audio visualizer (I will get into this).

How often does this problem occur?

This problem occurs everytime, unless you perform this strange fix I found which I will mention below. Occurs with synapse 2 open or closed.

Please describe the steps to reproduce this issue:

You can easily test this by using the default desktop profile and type to see the stutter or press ctrl to see the delay. The stutter is there on any other animated profile as well.

Strange Fix:

  1. Switch to a profile that contains the audio visualizer effect.
  2. Play some sound so the keyboard lights up.
  3. Switch to any other animation or profile of your choosing and the animations will now be smooth and responsive, but only for that program. (For example, play sound from a youtube video in chrome, switch to a profile of choosing, and the issue will be fixed. Now minimize chrome and the issue will come back. Unminimize chrome and it will be fixed again. Interestingly enough, Aurora "remembers" this and animations will now be smooth in chrome even after closing and reopening aurora or chrome.

What is the version of Aurora you are experiencing this issue with?

My version is 0.6.2b

Does the previous version of Aurora have this issue?

The previous version, 0.6.1-dev4, also has this issue.

Please include any logs, screenshots, or files that are related to this issue:

What response time does it show for Razer in the "Device Manager" tab of settings? The fix you describe is pretty weird especially if the Debug Bitmap is smooth the entire time and the only thing changing is the responsiveness of your keyboard. If the response time for Razer is high could you see if it changes at all when you do the "Strange Fix"?

johnmarshall515 commented 6 years ago

0ms response time with and without the fix. Deleted Aurora folder in AppData, no luck. Even had the chance to try on a completely different computer with brand new installation of Windows (installed synapse 2 and then opened aurora after windows installation) and it still had the bug. Kind of surprised no one has had this issue. Maybe its an issue with Blackwidow v2 TE's in particular.

@johnmarshall515 That's pretty strange, have you tried with any other application that uses the SDK to see if it is an issue with those as well?

johnmarshall515 commented 6 years ago

@simon-wh I have only tried it on games that use the SDK such as DOOM, Fortnite, and Thumper, and they all work completely fine.

simon-wh commented 6 years ago

Could you try changing the option for the "Bitmap Accuracy/Ratio" under "Devices & Wrappers" to a worse option to see if it changes anything?

simon-wh commented 6 years ago

Hm, I'm really unsure why you're experiencing this issue, I artificially added update delay to the device I use and it still only looked laggy by a minor amount (It took 100ms to refresh whereas a new frame is made every 33ms resulting in a lot of dropped frames), it could be an issue with the Razer end of things. Is your keyboard connected to your pc through a usb hub? hubs have been known to cause issues with lighting in the past

johnmarshall515 commented 6 years ago

@simon-wh I am not on a USB hub. Here's another video with a different keyboard effect showing the different bitmap accuracies. It looks like changing it to "best" does actually do something but it's still not as smooth as it should be. Then, as you can see when I switch to chrome (which I've previously used audio visualizer on), it goes completely smooth as it should be until i minimize it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9nRp11dxH3g&feature=youtu.be

Yet still randomly I have encountered it going studdery in chrome but it eventually goes back to smooth again. Very strange.

simon-wh commented 6 years ago

That is some extremely strange behaviour, especially when the "Best" option is one which would generally be laggier for most people as it uses the most CPU. And for it to run smoothly while in chrome, that is incredibly weird. Is it only chrome that it changes with? Do any electron based apps change it like Discord? I'm curious what's special about chrome that is causing it to run fine.

johnmarshall515 commented 6 years ago

@simon-wh It's not chrome specific, I was just using chrome as an example. I can make any program be smooth by switching to audio visualizer, playing some sound out of that program, and then switching back to my own keyboard effect. Whatever the audio visualizer does, fixes the problem for that program.

Is there any update on this issue? I'm having the same problem. It might have something to do with the windows Update 1909. I was at 1903 and after Updating to 1909 it started this behavior. Everything except the keyboard is smooth. I have a Razer Blackwidow Keyboard, Razer Goliathus Mousepad & a Logitech g502 Mouse. When looking at it, it seems like the keyboards animation is running slower then the rest and it tries to keep up by skipping some frames.

same issue here, razer oranata chroma lighs out of sync. my mousepad and mouse scroll and change colours during animations smoothly, but the keyboard is now a choppy mess. changing the bitmap to best has some affect but animations are still not smooth. was on win 10 1909 x64, updated to windows 10 2004 (May 2020 update)

im currently having the same issue with any Razer chroma related devices
