[Chapter 5] Network Related Refinements

This Issue captures several related comments collected from Paris pertaining to Networking, entered against the original RM Chapter-4 Etherpad, including JB1, JB5, JB-7, JB-9 & JB16 - JB20. Per initial triage, these apply to original Chapters 4, 6*[New Ch5]** and the RA, hence this issue will be replicated against each of those targets. Individual Issues can be broken off if/when further investigation warrants.

• 1 Action - talk about how many NICs and bandwidth (recommended physical networking infrastructure. Northbound NICs, East West NICs (for storage traffic). Southbound NICs for Management/OAM and PXE/ILO.
• 5 Not include Ethernet PHY speeds in a Virtual NIC context. Its misleading. A vNIC is connecting vSwitch. It's rate limiting not Ethernet PHY related.
• 7 Should the catalog specify: logical or physical network interfaces?
• 9 How to match the vNIC speed with a Physical NIC if they different in number and speed and we have vSwitch in-between?
• 16 Why virtual network interfaces connected with physical interfaces bandwidth? -> Throughput requirements from VNFs
• 17 #vNIC should not be part of the flavor
• 18 Action - Should include number of connections (attach rate to connections?)
• 19 Action - how to define virtual NIC requirements
• 20 How/do Virtual network interface options values add value?

1 (CH5) - Already addressed in H/W Profile (Table 5-16, "NIC Configuration") (ACTION: Change "Platform" to "Host").

7, #9 & #16 (CH4) - Replace Table 4-15 with a single table of aggregate (logical) bandwidth choices

5 & #17 (CH4) Number of vNICs is based on the number of extensions, and is not part of the Flavor (ACTION: Clarify language in paragraph 4.2.2)

18 Discuss w/ Rabi WRT bandwidth per interface vs. agg b/w per VNF
