The suggestion is more succinct, and easier to read/understand
The original definition is a verbatim copy from https://github.com/cncf/telecom-user-group/blob/master/whitepaper/cloud_native_thinking_for_telecommunications.md#1.4 I would propose to change the original place if we think it should be changed.
@CsatariGergely The note below the definition states:
"Note: This definition is derived from the Cloud Native Thinking for Telecommunications Whitepaper (https://github.com/cncf/telecom-user-group/blob/master/whitepaper/cloud_native_thinking_for_telecommunications.md#1.4), which also includes further detail and examples."
We have other definitions which are not identical to the source - in fact, we don't even provide the source.
The definition should be one that works for our community. I think, there are questions that we should be able to answer w.r.t. the definition:
Here is Wikipedia's definition of Cloud Native Network Function:
A Cloud-Native Network Function (CNF) is a software-implementation of a network function, traditionally performed on a physical device, but which runs inside Linux containers (typically orchestrated by Kubernetes).
Redhat definition is:
Cloud-native Network Functions (CNFs) are containerized instances of classic physical or Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) which have been decomposed into microservices supporting elasticity, lifecycle management, security, logging, and other capabilities in a Cloud-Native format.
Anuket's definition has an issue that needs to be resolved and the "Note" makes it abundantly clear that this is CNCF TUG's version.
FYI, I looked at definitions from Cisco, Legato, Redhat, and Wikipedia (agreed not an exhaustive list) -- no one refers to CNCF TUG definition.
Current definition: Cloud Native Network Function (CNF): A cloud native network function (CNF) is a cloud native application that implements network functionality. A CNF consists of one or more microservices. All layers of a CNF is developed using Cloud Native Principles including immutable infrastructure, declarative APIs, and a “repeatable deployment process”.
